Abstract

Diagnosing and managing life-threatening pancreatic diseases is a costly affair. This article comprehensively reviews the integration, advancements, and future perspectives of Point-of-Care (POC) biosensors investigated for diagnosing pancreatic diseases, including diabetes mellitus, pancreatic cancer, and pancreatitis. Biomarkers play a critical role in the early detection and management of these diseases. Some biomarkers discussed are α-amylase, lipase, and carbohydrate antigen 19–9 (CA 19–9). Based on these biomarkers, we explore different categories of biosensors such as electrochemical, optical, and piezoelectric that facilitate rapid and precise detection, and their possible applications in a POC setting. Despite facing challenges like the need for enhanced sensitivity and selectivity, POC biosensors hold significant potential to revolutionize clinical practice. They offer real-time, rapid diagnostic data, which is especially beneficial in resource-limited settings. The review will be beneficial for the researchers, and scientists working on the diagnosis, treatments, and management of these pancreatic diseases.
