Malignant skin neoplasms: an epidemiological overview of the last five years in the state of Pará

Abstract

The development of skin cancer is related to environmental factors, such as UVA and UVB radiation. It is equivalent to 30% of all cancers in Brazil and 200 thousand new cases are expected per year between 2023 and 2025. In Pará, 2490 cases are expected in 2023. We sought to analyze the relationship between the incidence of malignant skin neoplasms and the geospatial area of ​​Pará from the perspective of different variables. This is an ecological, exploratory, quantitative study, with data collected by DATASUS, PAINEL ONCOLOGY and selected cases of melanoma and other malignant skin neoplasms from 2019 to 2023 in the State of Pará for the 13 Health Regions, related criteria such as age, age group, gender, detailed diagnosis, staging and therapeutic modality. A total of 643 cases were recorded, 20.8% were malignant melanomas and 70.1% were other malignant skin neoplasms, of which 59.7% were men, 40.3% were women, with a predominance in the age group of 80 years or over with 15 .7%, with 45% of cases treated with Radiotherapy. In view of this, it is considered that malignant skin neoplasms are still public health problems in the State of Pará and affect sensitive portions of the population of Pará.
