SCFAs are the main metabolites derived from the anaerobic bacterial fermentation of fiber-rich diets, which are shown to play a protective role in cerebrovascular disease previously. Meanwhile, accumulating evidences suggest that SCFAs can also play a crucial role in cardiac energy metabolism. Abstract

Purpose of review: This study aims to review the effects of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in regulating the myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI).
