Abstract
We use a discrete–continuum approach to study geometrically nonlinear bending waves in a massin-mass metamaterial chain. The nonlinear equations of motion are derived, both in the form of coupled differential–difference equations and in the form of partial differential equations in the continuum limit. The possible existence of an analytical solution of continuum equations in the form of a solitary strain wave is examined.
