Abstract

Bacteriophages, viruses that infect bacteria, play a crucial role in manipulating the gut microbiome, with implications for human health and disease. Despite the vast amount of data available on the human gut virome, the number of cultured phages that infect human gut bacteria-particularly obligate anaerobes-remains strikingly limited.
