The second hypothesis suggests that homo-oligomerization stabilizes receptors, prevents internalization and thereby promotes transport indirectly. Abstract

Purpose of the review: Atherosclerotic plaques result from imbalanced lipid metabolism and maladaptive chronic immune responses. Class B scavenger receptors are lipid transporters and regulators of their metabolism.
