Mecoacán Lagoon, coastal shelf Tamaulipas, and Cayo Arcas Reef Complex showed a higher risk estimation based on sediment concentrations. Abstract

Petroleum industry in the southern Gulf of Mexico possesses relevant importance for the Mexican economy but it has also impacted the marine and coastal environments of this region. The objective of the current review is to provide a substantial panorama of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) during the XXI century.
