Thus, there is still a gap to breach in terms of understanding the intricate pathophysiology of chronic wounds and the role this plays on treatment and management. Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been linked to poor wound healing, with the pathogen being frequently isolated from chronic leg ulcers. Characterized by its multi-drug resistance, targeting P. aeruginosa requires the development of novel therapeutic options. Thus, the aim of this literature review is to describe the pathophysiology of P. aeruginosa in chronic leg ulcers and discuss novel treatment strategies.
