Abstract
PANDAS syndrome (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders associated with Streptococcal infections) is associated with different neuropsychiatric disorders, such as tic disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This study of 801 children and adolescents compares the socio-demographic, clinical and academic functioning profile of ASLO-positive patients with that of ASLO-negative or non-ASLO-positive patients. The results indicate that ASLO-positive patients are seven times more likely to have tics and OCD, as well as a higher frequency of Emergency Department admissions and a higher prevalence of trauma or fractures. However, no association between ASLO positivity and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or academic functioning is found.
