Abstract
In a forthcoming biography, Jean-Pierre Luauté has revealed the lies that John Howard Griffin resorted to. Griffin is best known to the general public for his novel Black Like Me. Through an analysis of this singular case, this article is a reflection on the difficult dividing line between falsehoods and the truth. In an age dominated by the competition between the fabrication of lies and the hunt for fake news, it seemed interesting to us to observe how the unveiling of an indisputable truth, a suspect narrative, and an omnipresent egocentrism coexist in such a famous text.
