Abstract

During the filling process of mineral insulated cables, MgO powder particles undergo tribocharging within the feeding tube, leading to charge accumulation on the surface and inside the powder. This results in a reduction in compactness of the powder, which subsequently affects the insulating properties of mineral insulated cables. The research on the phenomenon of tribocharging within the feeding tube is still insufficient. In order to address the aforementioned issues, the discrete element method (DEM) is used to construct a theoretical model and the EDEM simulation software is employed to examine the tribocharging process of MgO powder within the feeding tube. Then experiments are utilized to ascertain the influence of the tube's tilting angle and particle size on the charge-to-mass ratio of MgO powder particles. The results show that both the tilt angle of the feeding tube and the MgO particle size are proportional to the charge-to-mass ratio of the MgO powder.
