Abstract

Osteochondral lesions of the talus are commonly encountered in, and can be caused by, chronic lateral ankle instability. From a clinical and biomechanical point of view, treating chronic lateral ankle instability simultaneously during treatment of osteochondral lesions of the talus is paramount in optimizing patient outcomes, protecting the (repaired) ankle cartilage, and stopping the cascade of ankle cartilage damage. Preventing recurrent (micro)instability minimizes (shear) forces and further degeneration of ankle cartilage.

Nowhere is minimally invasive surgery explained better than in Arthroscopy, the leading peer-reviewed journal in the field. Every issue enables you to put into perspective the usefulness of the various emerging arthroscopic techniques. The advantages and disadvantages of these methods -- along with their applications in various situations -- are discussed in relation to their efficiency, efficacy and cost benefit. As a special incentive, paid subscribers also receive access to the journal expanded website.
