Abstract
This work is a commentary on the current state of diversity, equity, and inclusion as it pertains to academic surgery and society. Currently, diversity, equity, and inclusion has come under attack and not only does its importance to our workforce come under fire, but its importance to patient care and outcomes becomes more prevalent. This commentary is derived from a talk given as part of the Academic Surgical Congress in February 2024.
