Abstract

End-of-life batteries from electromobility present numerous challenges in recycling. In addition to a variety of materials, compounds, and diverse designs, they pose a significant electrical, chemical, thermal, and explosive hazard. This article explores the potential for enhancing the safety of lithium-ion battery recycling through a low-temperature pretreatment. The evaporation behavior of different cell types and the impact of pretreatment are determined through penetration tests. The results provide a better evaluation of material flows in the recycling process and demonstrate the effectiveness of low-temperature pretreatment in enhancing safety during batteryrecycling.
