Abstract

The Gangetic mystus, Mystus cavasius (Hamilton, 1822) is a freshwater bagrid catfish distributed in the rivers of Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, and India. In the present study, Mystus cavasius was recorded for the first time from the upper reaches of the Beas River basin in Himachal Pradesh. Samples collection was carried out from January to May 2024 in the Baner Rivulet, a tributary of the Beas River. The mt DNA COI gene sequences were generated for the correct identification of species along with their biometric characters. Sequences were deposited in NCBI (GenBank) and their accession number were PQ676302 and PQ676303. Sequences show 99–100 % similarity in both NCBI and BOLD databases with Mystus cavasius. This is the first report of Mystus cavasius from the upper reaches of the Beas River basin in Himachal Pradesh, India.

Ecological Genetics and Genomics publishes ecological studies of broad interest that provide significant insight into ecological interactions or/ and species diversification. New data in these areas are published as research papers, or methods and resource reports that provide novel information on technologies or tools that will be of interest to a broad readership. Complete data sets are shared where appropriate. The journal also provides Reviews, and Perspectives articles, which present commentary on the latest advances published both here and elsewhere, placing such progress in its broader biological context. Topics include: -metagenomics -population genetics/genomics -evolutionary ecology -conservation and molecular adaptation -speciation genetics -environmental and marine genomics -ecological simulation -genomic divergence of organisms
