Abstract
Objectives: To conduct a review based on studies that have investigated nursing students' experiences of and attitudes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Design: A scoping review.
Methods: A systematic scoping review was conducted using PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Sciences databases covering the years 2014-2024. Seventeen studies were included.
Results: Six themes emerged from an inductive process of data interpretation: Influence of demographic and institutional factors, impact of educational programs, integration of sustainability into nursing curricula, educational interventions, barriers to sustainable nursing practices, and enablers of sustainable nursing practices.
Conclusion: Demographic factors influence students' attitudes toward SDG-focused education. Prior training and experiential learning improve knowledge and attitudes. Despite feeling underprepared, nursing students often seek information independently. Effective education should integrate practical applications and address barriers like confidence and time. Expanding awareness and professional development are key to promoting sustainable practices.
期刊介绍:
Public Health Nursing publishes empirical research reports, program evaluations, and case reports focused on populations at risk across the lifespan. The journal also prints articles related to developments in practice, education of public health nurses, theory development, methodological innovations, legal, ethical, and public policy issues in public health, and the history of public health nursing throughout the world. While the primary readership of the Journal is North American, the journal is expanding its mission to address global public health concerns of interest to nurses.
