Abstract
Two undescribed Daphniphyllum alkaloids, daphnicalycinones A and B (1 and 2), together with three known analogues, daphnezomine D (3), calycindaphine H (4) and calycindaphine A (5) were isolated from the roots of Daphniphyllum calycinum. Their planar structures and stereo-structures were determined by extensively spectral analyses, including HRESIMS, NMR, DP4 + computational method and single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The anti-inflammatory activities of compounds 1−5 were tested on LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells, and the results showed that 2 and 5 exhibited potent inhibitory effects with the IC50 values of 1.53 ± 0.35 μM and 10.13 ± 0.72 μM, respectively.

Phytochemistry Letters invites rapid communications on all aspects of natural product research including:
• Structural elucidation of natural products
• Analytical evaluation of herbal medicines
• Clinical efficacy, safety and pharmacovigilance of herbal medicines
• Natural product biosynthesis
• Natural product synthesis and chemical modification
• Natural product metabolism
• Chemical ecology
• Biotechnology
• Bioassay-guided isolation
• Pharmacognosy
• Pharmacology of natural products
• Metabolomics
• Ethnobotany and traditional usage
• Genetics of natural products
Manuscripts that detail the isolation of just one new compound are not substantial enough to be sent out of review and are out of scope. Furthermore, where pharmacology has been performed on one new compound to increase the amount of novel data, the pharmacology must be substantial and/or related to the medicinal use of the producing organism.
