Abstract

In this study, we performed a detailed analysis of the reduction behaviour of copper-alanine complexes under alkaline conditions. We analyse and discuss how the four cathodic processes presented in cyclic voltammetry profiles behave as a function of the scan speed and of the mass transport conditions by means of rotating disk electrode. Hence, we propose two different pathways in the copper-alanine reduction. In addition, we perform a hydrodynamic investigation at different mass transport regimes. Hence, we interpret the current response as a function of the mass transport under the lens of the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism. To this end, we provide the Langmuir adsorption constant of copper-alanine complexes on metallic copper, and the Langmuir-Hinshelwood heterogeneous rate constant for the reduction of copper-alanine complexes at different potentials and temperatures.

期刊介绍: Electrochemistry Communications is an open access journal providing fast dissemination of short communications, full communications and mini reviews covering the whole field of electrochemistry which merit urgent publication. Short communications are limited to a maximum of 20,000 characters (including spaces) while full communications and mini reviews are limited to 25,000 characters (including spaces). Supplementary information is permitted for full communications and mini reviews but not for short communications. We aim to be the fastest journal in electrochemistry for these types of papers.
