Abstract

Welcome Address

Dear Colleagues,

It was with great pleasure that we welcome you all for the 19th Annual Winter Research Meeting on Translational Heart Failure, organised by the Heart Failure Association (HFA) in collaboration with the WG Myocardial Function of the European Society of Cardiology.

The HFA Winter Meeting has been a long-standing tradition and has emerged as the best basic and translational heart failure meeting in Europe. The tradition started in 1983, initiated by Professor Dirk Brutsaert (founding president of the Heart Failure Association of the ESC, 2004–2006). The first official meeting was chaired by Sir James Whyte Black, who developed the first β-blockers and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1988. Since then, the participation is reserved to lecturers, abstracts presenters and poster judges. The presence of scientists with different scientific backgrounds makes this meeting a huge opportunity for brainstorming and thinking outside the box, with novel visions and concepts and therapeutic targets for Heart Failure being discussed with possibilities of translation into the clinical arena. Participants hear the most novel scientific advancements on the topic of heart failure.

This year during these few days, special sessions take place, such as the Brutsaert Lecture, given by Professor Gianluigi Condorelli, in recognition of his outstanding career and achievements in our field. The traditional Guido Tarone Lecture is awarded to Doctor Andrea Ruiz Velasco Hernandez for the best abstract. In addition, as in last years' version, during the poster's sessions, the Young Investigator Awards are also attributed.

We would like to congratulate once again all abstracts presenters who have been chosen to participate to this event. We are thanking you all for your active participation and success of this HFA Winter Research Meeting 2025 season.

The grading and selection of abstracts for the meeting was accomplished by independent peer-review by the Winter Research Meeting Organising Committee and other independent experts.

A total of 84 abstracts were submitted of which 62 were accepted. Acceptance rate: 73%.
