Abstract

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were prepared by top-down hydrothermal method by corn stalks as a carbon source. The CQDs were composited with titanium dioxide (TiO2) to improve its antibacterial properties under visible light. The prepared nanocomposites were characterized by UV–Vis, EA, PL, TEM, XRD, FT-IR and XPS. PL analysis showed that the prepared CQDs had good upconversion fluorescence properties. FTIR and XPS demonstrated that the CQDs were successfully loaded onto the surface of TiO2, which were connected by C-O-Ti bonds. Finally, the effect of CQDs on the photocatalytic and antimicrobial properties of TiO2 was evaluated.

Chemical Physics Letters has an open access mirror journal, Chemical Physics Letters: X, sharing the same aims and scope, editorial team, submission system and rigorous peer review. Chemical Physics Letters publishes brief reports on molecules, interfaces, condensed phases, nanomaterials and nanostructures, polymers, biomolecular systems, and energy conversion and storage. Criteria for publication are quality, urgency and impact. Further, experimental results reported in the journal have direct relevance for theory, and theoretical developments or non-routine computations relate directly to experiment. Manuscripts must satisfy these criteria and should not be minor extensions of previous work.
