Early Intervention Against Male Supremacist Influences Among College Students: "It's Really Not a Program That Exists".

Abstract

Male supremacist ideologies can incite violence against women and nonbinary people, including sexual violence, murder, and mass murder. Strategies for intervening against male supremacism are needed. College violence prevention practices may provide opportunities to develop such strategies. This critical needs assessment used an antifascist framework to analyze interviews with college staff about responding to male supremacist warning signs among students. Promising strategies discussed were informal individual interventions, group interventions, student bystander interventions, and community-wide approaches. We also identified a need to create new programs for sustained proactive early interventions, especially without a specific target, conduct violation, or mental health concern.
