Bjarnsholt, P. Ø. Jensen, L. Kruse Jensen; the Scandinavian Societies for Pathology, Medical Microbiology and Immunology; and John Wiley & Sons Ltd. The retraction has been agreed due to concerns raised by third parties. It has come to the attention of the journal that the study did not receive adequate ethical approval for the research on human subjects conducted on the “Senegalese individual” group. Accordingly, the article is retracted.
