The ability to define novel treatment strategies including surgical, chemotherapeutic, and gene therapies relies on our understanding of the basic mechanisms underlying human bladder carcinogenesis. Many in vitro culture systems and in vivo animal models have been developed over recent years, which have been used to define key molecular events that are associated with the development of bladder cancer.
