Abstract

In recent years, China has increasingly become a positive force in global climate change governance, making a solemn commitment to the world to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060, and integrating active response to climate change into the national vision of long-term sustainable development. However, the actual impact of China's proactive measures in the climate field on the global level has not yet received attention from scholars, and its impact on China's overall international image is still limited. Taking the "strategic communication" of climate governance as the conceptual framework, based on an online survey of the American public (N=710), it was found that there are certain differences between China's climate governance image and the overall national image in the minds of American audiences. The climate governance image is better than the national image, but at the same time, the actual understanding of China's climate actions by the American public is quite limited. The survey also shows that the concept of "responsible politics" in climate governance is equally applicable in climate communication. Compared to emphasizing economic and technological development, enhancing the image of political stability in China and demonstrating the image of a major country actively taking on climate responsibility is more conducive to enhancing China's climate influence.
