Abstract

More than 60 species of non-native Carabidae have been introduced into North America, with most of Palearctic origins (Bousquet 2012). Paradromius linearis (Olivier, 1795) is a broadly distributed Palearctic species (Löbl and Smetana 2003) recently recorded from North America based on a single specimen from Nova Scotia, Canada (Lewis 2022). To date, more than a dozen species of non-native Carabidae have been documented from California (Bousquet 2012; LaBonte 2022; Maddison et al . 2018; Sokolov and Kavanaugh 2014). California bycatch from the Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) survey for non-native bark and ambrosia beetles (Rabaglia et al . 2019) included three specimens of a suspicious lebiine carabid (Fig. 1A). These readily keyed to P. linearis in Trautner and Geigenmüller (1987) and the habitus and frons matched the images in Lewis (2022) (Figs. 1A, B). Definitive diagnostic characters include the striate frons
