Abstract
ABSTRACT This article examines the histories of stoneware pottery production facilities in Edgefield, South Carolina, and the roles of European Americans and African Americans as entrepreneurs, artisans, and laborers in those potteries in the period of 1790–1900. Based on exhaustive analysis of documentary sources, the authors present a comprehensive list of the African-American artisans and laborers at these pottery manufacturing centers.
