Abstract

We are very pleased to present the collection of the papers of the 2022 Open Conference of the IFIP WG 8.3 Decision Support in this volume. The IFIP WG 8.3 conferences are organised bi-annually, and in 2022 we were able to organise the event again with a physical presence. The face-to-face talks were supplemented with online presentations, so we created a hybrid conference environment that could also be used for the future, which simultaneously ensured the possibility of personal discussions, debates, and social programmes, and online events for those who due to some reasons could not be present in person. This year, the conference was hosted by the Corvinus University of Budapest. At the University, research dealing with decision-making and decision support systems is carried out at various institutes and departments. The teaching and research activities of the Institute of Operations and Decision Sciences are diverse, they include trends and approaches discussing the preparation, support, understanding and shaping of decision-making, problem-solving processes – at individual, group, organisational, community and social level – encouraging participation, responsibility, and involvement. Our goal is to promote the development of decisionmaking practice primarily through the preparation of future decision-makers. This year’s conference entitled ‘Decision Support Systems: From Data Analytics to Intuition’ is set to highlight the trends in the increasing abundance of data, technological advancements, and the resulting requirement for a strong research focus on the decision-making continuum from human-centric decision-making approaches to analytics based decision-making approaches. Our focus is on how DSS expertise can support decision problems that arise across a diverse range of sectors including financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, media, and many others. This supplemental issue includes the paper of Máté Farkas-Kis on Decision making in the shadow of mathematical education which received the Daniel J. Power Award for the best innovative DSS paper of the IFIP WG 8.3 Conference. We would like to express our warm thanks to the members of the Scientific Programme Committee.
