Abstract
Companies have undoubtedly become powerful actors in the international system. Apart from managing relations with other
companies, they usually have to interact with other governments, civil society, and individuals in diverse intercultural contexts.
This article aims to analyze the relevant elements of cultural intelligence in business diplomacy from a theoretical perspective.
Through a review of the literature on the different approaches to diplomacy and international business, the manuscript shows
the determining factors that contribute to success in intercultural relationships. Amongst the most important are the hiring and
training of personnel specialized in International Relations to develop the skills to understand the political, social, cultural
and economic context of a society, as well as cultural awareness to identify the determining elements in communication within
intercultural business.
