Abstract
This article analyzes the historical evolution of the urban fabric of Vilafamés. From the delimitation of the enclosure that occupied the Al-Andalus hisn , the urban growth and the configuration that the town experienced until the 19th century is detailed. In the analysis, three periods are differentiated. The first one covers the 13th-15th centuries with the creation of the Christian town and the construction of the wall that determined the internal structuring in the occupation of the land. A second period takes place between the 16th and 18th centuries, characterized, at the beginning, by an important development of housing construction, as a result of the economic and demographic growth of the population, which defined the existing urban fabric inside the fortified enclosure until the present day. The end of the period was marked by the introduction of the ideology of the Enlightenment in urban planning at the same time that the population began to outside the wall. Finally, the third moment extends until the end of the 19th century with the urban development outside the walled enclosure reaching the lower part of the town where a series of facilities were located that mark the change in the traditional economic orientation of the town.
