Abstract
Post-traumatic elbow stiffness is a challenging problem and can be a debilitating condition for patients. Causes of elbow stiffness can be multifactorial and include post-traumatic conditions, fractures, dislocations, and soft tissue/burn injuries. The contracture may be a result of intra-articular, extra-articular, or mixed causes. In cases where the primary pathology has been adequately addressed and the post-traumatic stiffness remains an issue, nonoperative and operative options are available to the treating surgeon. These include physical therapy, splinting, arthroscopic contracture release, and open contracture release. The treatment plan needs to be tailored specifically for each patient.
