Abstract
This article presents data and analysis about writing in Goiás's ecclesiastical documents, written in the nineteenth century. For this purpose, the material of our study is a manuscript codex between the years 1839-1842, with baptismal certificates of slaves and their progeny and of free people. We observe that ortographic occurrences such as borders of words that represent words phonological and/or morphological, the position of the diacritical mark or the lack of it promotes the formation of diphthongs and monophthongs or represents the form they would occur in speech. As theoretical sources, we will use Higounet (2003); Megale et al. (2007), Fachin (2011 ), and others that talk about this issue.
