Synonyms of Velvet Ants of the Genus Dasymutilla Ashmead (Hymenoptera: Mutillidae)

Abstract

commonly encountered velvet ant genus in North America (pers. obs.). They are marked by extreme sexual dimorphism and intraspecific variation (Pilgrim et al. 2009; Williams et al. 2012). Several papers have increased the number of synonyms in the genus Dasymutilla (Manley and Pitts 2007; Pilgrim et al. 2009; Williams et al. 2011; Williams et al. 2012; Manley et al. 2020). A table that listed these names was to have been included in the recent paper by Manley et al. (2020); however, that table was inadvertently left out of the paper. The table is included here (Table 1) as an addendum to that paper. This table will help researchers keep track of synonymous names, many of which were very recently in active use.
