Abstract
In the course of the Corona pandemic, contact, education, and employment opportunities have fundamentally changed worldwide. This paper focuses on the impact of the Corona pandemic on the study situation in Germany, the introduction of digital teaching and learning formats, and how the different student groups are dealing with the changed study situation. First, an overview of the various consequences of the Corona pandemic for studying in Germany is given. Subsequently, the research results on the challenges and consequences for different student groups are discussed. Concerning changes in time, little is known so far about which groups of students have only recently found themselves in a more challenging study situation. Therefore, based on a Germany-wide student survey (2020) and the 21st Social Survey (2016), we finally take an empirical look at how the intention to drop out has changed in the course of the Corona pandemic and which student groups now bear an increased risk of dropping out. Our findings indicate that compared to 2016 social inequalities in dropout intention have increased significantly.
