Abstract
Education in remote and rural areas of Indonesia is familiar with its uniqueness and complex problems. This study aimed at investigating the portrait of students, teachers, and learning resources at schools in rural-isolated-small islands named Pongok and Celagen. Involving all schools in the islands, the research conducted by a qualitative approach in the form of case studies and used a documentation study technique to collect data. The study findings revealed that is uncommon for high school graduates in Pongok and Celagen pursuing further education to universities, there are some teachers with non-educational undergraduate degrees, and there are almost no collections of educators handbook in the schools’ libraries. The problem should be taken into account seriously by related stakeholders and policymakers to be overcome gradually and continuously.
