El estudio busca contribuir a un mejor entendimiento del nacionalismo mexicano del siglo XX desde la perspectiva de la historia cultural y los estudios sobre la memoria.Abstract:This article compares the posthumous heroization of two historical Mexican figures: Benito Juárez and Emiliano Zapata. The main goal is to problematize the link between political ideologies and esthetic sensibilities by analyzing the qualities of both heroes in Mexican nationalist culture. The presence of these two figures in art, textbooks, and political discourse is reviewed in order to assess these heroes' importance in the construction of both hegemonic nationalism and some peripheral identities.
