Taking important academic journals in the field of journalism and communication in both China and the West as sources, this study conducted a systematic review of computational communication research in 2022 from three dimensions: "topic", "method", and "theory", and compared the similarities and differences in the focus of literature in China and the West. Research has found that political communication is a hot topic of common concern among Chinese and Western scholars in topic selection. In addition, English literature has a high level of research attention in the fields of the epidemic and the news industry. At the research methodology level, Sina Weibo constitutes the main source of data for Chinese literature. In English literature, Twitter, Facebook, and news reports are the most mainstream sources of data, and there have also been cutting-edge research on cross platform data acquisition and the combination of big and small data. Semantic analysis, network analysis, and sentiment analysis are commonly used computational methods in both Chinese and English literature. Visual analysis and simulation have been preliminarily applied, and Western literature has begun to introduce the research methods of screen omics.
