Abstract
Art as protest was a key element in Aragalaya. A non-violent form of resistance music and art brought colour and vigour to the protests despite the state’s refined crackdown methods. The 9th of July was an instance where art’s political potential expanded beyond aesthetic conditions. Sounds of resistance will forever linger in my memories. When I look at these moments I still hear them, awaiting the rehearsal of new voices.

The Indian Journal of Gender Studies is geared towards providing a more holistic understanding of society. Women and men are not compared mechanically. Rather, gender categories are analysed with a view to changing social attitudes and academic biases which obstruct a holistic understanding of contributions to the family, community and a wider polity.
