Sodium saline soil is collected from the state of Cesar (Colombia) and soil samples (2 kg) are treated with 0, 2, and 4 t/ha of low-rank coal. The Colombian maize strain ICA 109 is used. Soil thermal conductivity is measured in situ 10 days after establishing the experiment. The results show that adding low-rank coal caused a significant decrease in soil thermal conductivity and a 36% survival rate of maize plants.
