Abstract
This present article discusses the territorial configuration of the sewage system and its relation with the cases of diarrhea in the Pajuçara district, Natal/RN. The system of sewage collection, the presence of sewage in the streets and the notifications of the disease were taken into consideration. The methodology comprised two stages: theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical, bibliographic surveys were carried out on the Recebido em: 21/11/2019 Aceito para publicação em: 14/07/2020. 2 Este artigo é resultado da monografia intitulada “O Sistema de Esgotamento Sanitário e os casos de Diarreia no bairro Pajuçara, Natal-RN”, apresentada ao Departamento de Geografia da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte para obtenção do título de Bacharel em Geografia. In this context, the references were highlighted: Santos (2006 and 2008), Brazil (2006 and 2007), Monken and Barcellos (2005) and Sotero (2010). In the empirical analysis, diarrhea and depletion of health data were acquired through the Spatial Sampling by Square, with the application of 468 forms, and the kernel interpolation method and the Overley Intersect in the elaboration of cartographic products. The results showed in 2017, the existence of 20 areas with 3,743 residences using the rudimentary pit in the collection of sewage. The overlapping of cases of diarrhea and rudimentary fossa identified the most fragile areas from the health point of view. Their spatialization allowed the Environmental Health Surveillance and the Family Health Units to make more frequent home visits. This action aimed at reducing the cases of diarrhea identified in the territory studied. Based on these results, it is suggested the continuity of epidemiological and environmental monitoring and its spatialization in all neighborhoods of the city of Natal, since the identified sanitary fragility is not only a condition of the Pajuçara neighborhood.
