Abstract

The luxation of the hip joint is rare. Since ancient time and from the bible this injury is known. The first exact descriptions from the Middle Ages could not distinguish luxations from fractures of the hip. Publications from the 19th century described the early classifications of those luxations. Since X-ray were discovered there were no more doubt about fractures and hip luxations. The luxation of hip has to be removed in general anaesthetic. With correct knowledge of the direction of hip luxation the reset of the joint is easy. The follow-up treatment contains the protection of the hip to prevent necrosis of the femoral head and early arthritis. We recommend a follow-up for years.
