Abstract

cleavage of gasdermin superfamily proteins, leading to the formation of membrane pores. The formation of pores and the increased permeability of cell membranes promote the release of cellular contents that trigger and sustain inflammation. Ebata et al found that inhibiting noncanonical pyroptosis in chondrocytes suppressed the production of catabolic factors in vitro and cartilage degeneration in vivo. These data demonstrate that pyroptosis signaling represents an attractive target for preventing car tilage degeneration and the progression of OA.
