ASLM — CLHS First Annual Conference on Controversies in Law and Medicine: Wednesday, October 12, 1977

Abstract

The American Society of Law & Medicine and Boston University's Center for Law and Health Sciences will cosponsor this year the first annual conference on currenl key "Controversies in Law and Medicine" at the Conference Auditorium of the George Sherman Union on the campus of Boston University at 775 Commonwealth Avenue, Boslon. Massachusetts on Wednesday, October 12, 1977. This projected annual series of pro and con discussions of selected contemporary controversial issues involving law and medicine will have special relevance lor health care providers, attorneys, legislators, ail medicolegal practitioners and consumers. The topics to be discussed in this year's Conference are: ( 1 ) Should attorneys be held liable in countersuit for initiating unsuccessful medical malpractice actions? (2) Should physicians be legally required to render "essential" care to Medlcaid recipients and other medically indigent persons? issues which have all provoked heated debate and consumer interest. The morning session of the Conference will be devoted to individual presentations by recognized experts. pro and con, on each of these topics. In the afternoon. registrants and faculty will continue the discussions in workshops one on each of the morning topics. The program will conclude with a general session at which the deliberations of each of the workshops will be presented to the entire group and the Conlerence's conclusions and recommendations summarized.
