From 1997 to 2002 she was the executive director for the Standing Committee on Responsibility and Ethics in Science of the International Council for Science. Today she leads the neuroethics research team at the Centre for Research Ethis and Bioethics at Uppsala University, where her main interests are neuroethics and the neural basis of consciousness. She has recently been appointed honorary professor at Universidad Central de Chile.
