Abstract

The practice of reading has not had the same connotations throughout history. This study shows important changes in its conceptualization in the last decades. This article reflects on what reading is and how literary reading is related to comprehension. To account for that, some theoretical definitions present in the field are reviewed. This will allow us to put together a map of the different conceptions of this practice. The objective is to propose a definition based on six dimensions: aesthetics; playful; cognitive; sociocultural; subjective, and corporal-affective.
