Abstract

The technological developments associated with the modern era have led to dynamic social literacy changes in adolescents. This concept has led to studies on various theoretical perspectives, and its integration into the school curriculum has been encouraged by governments from several countries. However, social literacy is a complicated idea in practice because it comprises considerable theoretical, practical, and ethical challenges. Therefore, this study provides a better understanding of the social literacy complexity by summarizing the main perspectives or existing social literacy practices in the field. It also identifies key aspects in a particular concept of social literacy and explains the process associated with its formulation by several literacy educators. The results showed that educators can use an alternative approach, strategies, or learning models to develop new values, norms, and habits for adolescents in online learning situations, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. © Common Ground Research Networks, Poerwanti Hadi Pratiwi, Sugito, Zamroni, Some Rights Reserved, (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
