Abstract

The cornea provides about 70% of the eye’s refractive power; this is where most of the refractive surgeries that exist today, such as LASIK, are practiced. For this reason, it is essential to perform all the pre-surgical and postsurgical exams available, since iatrogenic ectasias can be prevented. Likewise, the biomechanical aspects of the cornea after laser surgery, such as the percentage of altered tissue and residual stromal thickness, provide extremely important data to determine the future behavior of the cornea after procedure. In this case report, the patient presented with penetrating keratoplasty caused by unilateral post-LASIK ectasia. For this reason, he was referred to optometry for visual assessment and rehabilitation, where a complete examination was carried out and the existing alternatives for the correction of the case were analyzed in depth. Finally, a scleral contact lens was adapted.
