Formación de un exitoso caraqueño de entre siglos. El caso del ingeniero-arquitecto Alejandro Chataing, 1874-1928

Abstract

Este artículo se construye como una exploración y análisis de documentos con base en la revisión de fuentes primarias, secundarias y hemerográficas, para ofrecer los resultados parciales de una investigación cuyo objetivo es aportar una visión de la educación en Venezuela a finales del siglo XIX, a través del recorrido formativo del Ingeniero-Arquitecto Alejandro Chataing, uno de los principales protagonistas de la arquitectura y construcción del entresiglos venezolano. La investigación histórica dio a conocer el difícil itinerario de la educación venezolana en el siglo XIX, y el caso particular de Chataing quien, a partir de su experiencia con la educación pública y privada, unido al acompañamiento de su maestro y mentor el Ingeniero Juan Hurtado Manrique, logra destacar como uno de los más brillantes profesionales de finales del siglo XIX y tres primeras décadas del siglo XX. ABSTRACT This article, based on the review of primary, secondary and miscellaneous sources, offers the partial results of a research whose objective is to provide an insight of education in Venezuela at the end of the 19th century, through the academic journey of the Engineer-Architect Alejandro Chataing, one of the main characters of the architecture and construction of Venezuela at the turn of the century. The historical research revealed the difficult itinerary of Venezuelan education in the 19th century, and the particular case of Chataing who, based on his development with public and private education, together with the support of his teacher and mentor Engineer Juan Hurtado Manrique, managed to stand out as one of the most brilliant professionals of the late 19th century and the first three decades of the 20th century.
