Territorios separados en España: origen y situación actual

Abstract

In the XXI century, it is paradoxical the existence in Spain of several areas that are separated from their administrative units of reference, such as the municipality or the province. These irregularities have been the result of several situations such as the existence in the Hispanic Monarchy of a great number of kingdoms, principalities, dominions..., with different legal regimes. Thus, at the beginning of the nineteenth century, attempts were made to correct all this confusing network of provinces and kingdoms inherited from the Middle Ages, trying to give territorial coherence and trying to eliminate in some cases, or minimize in others, the number of territories separated from their province. The analysis and updating of these geographical anomalies, specifically those produced by the separation of a municipality (or part of it), with respect to its province, will be the object of the present study. These territories have reached to our days through different historical events. Most of them survive their particularity with admirable integration in their environment.
