Delimitación espacial de las zonas probables de salida de aludes en el macizo de Peñalara mediante el uso de SIG

Abstract

Avalanches are a type of natural risk that threatens certain mountain areas. Although this risk has never been very high in Spanish mountains, the number of avalanches’ victims in the last decades has increased substantially due to the increasing human occupation of these areas. This is why there is a growing interest in studying avalanches’ dynamics both from spacial as well as temporal points of view. This study analyses avalanches detected in Penalara’s massif, in the Spanish Central Mountain Range, and applies a Geographical System Information (GIS) based methodology to determine the areas that are most exposed to this type of natural risk.
