The compounds form needle-shaped crystals, which are sensitive to moisture. The structures are of the K<sub>2</sub>[SiP<sub>2</sub>] type and contain the polyanionic chains <span><math><msub><mi></mi><mn>∞</mn></msub><msup><mi></mi><mn>1</mn></msup><mtext>[SiP</mtext><msub><mi></mi><mn><mtext>4</mtext><mtext>2</mtext></mn></msub><msup><mi></mi><mn>2−</mn></msup><mtext>], </mtext><msub><mi></mi><mn>∞</mn></msub><msup><mi></mi><mn>1</mn></msup><mtext>[SiAs</mtext><msub><mi></mi><mn><mtext>4</mtext><mtext>2</mtext></mn></msub><msup><mi></mi><mn>2−</mn></msup><mtext>], </mtext><msub><mi></mi><mn>∞</mn></msub><msup><mi></mi><mn>1</mn></msup><mtext>[GeAs</mtext><msub><mi></mi><mn><mtext>4</mtext><mtext>2</mtext></mn></msub><msup><mi></mi><mn>2−</mn></msup><mtext>] and </mtext><msub><mi></mi><mn>∞</mn></msub><msup><mi></mi><mn>1</mn></msup><mtext>[SnAs</mtext><msub><mi></mi><mn><mtext>4</mtext><mtext>2</mtext></mn></msub><msup><mi></mi><mn>2−</mn></msup><mtext>]</mtext></math></span> composed of edge-sharing tetrahedra, isoelectronic and isostructural with SiS<sub>2</sub>. The structures were refined from X-ray single-crystal data: space group <em>Ibam</em> (No. 72), <em>Z</em> = 4. Abstract
K2[GeAs2], Rb2[SnAs2], Cs2[SiP2], Cs2[SiAs2] and Cs2[SnAs2] were prepared from molten mixtures of the elements under an argon atmosphere in Al2O3 crucibles.
